Guide – FFXIV – Final Fantasy XIV – The power of numpad & controller

In Final Fantasy XIV, you often have to…

  • Turn in a lot of items at an NPC
  • Select an NPC which are surrounded by players
  • Sell items to a vendor fast

Then you should try using a controller, or your numpad on the keyboard! The numpad works like a mini-controller. And while it might look overwhelming at first, it is super easy to use.

If you want to learn it, just try using it. It is surprisingly easy to get a hang of.

A few common occasions when I use it:

  • Turning in a lot of items? Just spam the Numpad 0 key!
  • Need to select an NPC which is surrounded? Use Numpad 4 and Numpad 6 to select them, and then Numpad 0 (twice) to talk with them.
  • Want to deliver a collectible-like item? Use the Numpad * key to open the “select an item” pop-up and pick the item.
  • Are you cleaning out inventory/armory? Go into Character Configuration, Item Settings tab on the left, scroll down, and disable the confirmation. You can use the numpad to clean out all the junk in 5 minutes.

In case you didn’t know, always try to do deliveries at your Grand Company first. It helps your Free Company and gives you GC seals. Just make sure every gear is registered to a gear set, and then you must set “Hide gear set items” when you are talking to the NPC so you don’t turn in your high-level gear.

The default buttons in the game:

Don’t have a numpad on your keyboard or do you have no controller at hand?

No need to worry. You can pick up a wireless numpad for around 10$ or less from computer shops. This way you can put it in a drawer when you don’t need it, place it anywhere where it’s comfortable, and so on.
